On June 29th 2012, three Osprey chicks were banded at the Golden Lake Elementary School in Circle Pines MN. Some students, teachers, families and friends were on hand to watch as each chick received their USFWS and colored leg bands. Banding young in the nest enables researches to gather a variety of information about each bird over time such as; Where do these chicks go after they fledge? Will they establish a breeding territory of their own once they are adults? And how long do they live?
