ST. PAUL, MN (May 25, 2016) – Audubon Minnesota announced today that Molly Pederson will be the next Vice President and Executive Director.

Pederson brings 15 years of public policy experience to the organization. Most recently, Pederson served as Senior Policy Advisor for Governor Mark Dayton, covering the areas of environment, energy, agriculture, and commerce. Her accomplishments include spearheading Governor Dayton’s successful water summit in February and securing passage of the Governor’s buffer initiative.

“Molly Pederson has been a tremendous Senior Policy Advisor in our Office,” said Governor Mark Dayton. “Her outstanding leadership has advanced the causes of clean water and better environmental stewardship throughout Minnesota. As Vice President and Executive Director of Audubon Minnesota, Molly’s vision and dedication will continue to protect and enhance our State's environment for generations to come.”

Previously, Pederson spent nine years as the Government Affairs Director for Conservation Minnesota where she oversaw the organization’s public policy and lobbying efforts. She led coalitions that put in place the Clean Water Legacy Act, Great Lakes Compact, stable funding for transportation and transit, and numerous clean energy policies. Pederson also worked for the Northern Dakota County Chambers of Commerce recruiting new members and establishing the organization’s government affairs program.

“We are thrilled to welcome such an accomplished leader to Audubon,” said Deborah Reynolds, Audubon Minnesota’s board chair. “Molly brings with her a history of great environmental and policy experience. We are confident that with her vision and guidance, our Minnesota team, the teams in Iowa and Missouri, and our current and future programs will be in a position to flourish and grow.”

Audubon Minnesota was established in 1979 and throughout its history, Audubon chapters, and Audubon’s committed members have contributed to the rich conservation legacy of Minnesota. The organization and its supporters have worked to create bird-friendly communities, protect water for birds and people, and create a healthy climate. Pederson’s direction will ensure Audubon Minnesota continues to leave a positive conservation legacy for future generations.

“I look forward to building on Audubon's great work to ensure clean water, abundant wetlands and prairies, and a healthy climate,” said Pederson. “The National Audubon Society has been a global conservation leader for over a century. I am honored and excited to be part of this proud tradition. Minnesota plays an especially critical role in protecting and restoring bird habitat because what happens at the top of the Mississippi Flyway directly impacts the rest of the states to our south.”

Pederson will begin at Audubon Minnesota on June 20. Matt Anderson, Audubon Minnesota's previous Executive Director, has taken a new role as the Vice President of Climate for the National Audubon Society. Now, his work focuses on national climate projects and he is still based in Minnesota.
