  • State of the Birds 2010 Climate Change Report



    How climate change may affect our birds and their habitats, and actions needed, are detailed in a recent report by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in partnership with Audubon and nine other organizations and agencies.





  • EPA Flunks PolyMet’s Proposal for an Open-Pit Sulfide Mine as “Unacceptable”



    In a letter to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Environmental Protection Agency rated PolyMet’s draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) for their proposed NorthMet sulfide mine located near the Boundary Waters both "environmentally unsatisfactory” and “inadequate.” More...





  • Interior Department Critical of Mining Impact Statement



    The U.S. Department of the Interior reviewed the October 2009 Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the open pit NorthMet Project promoted by PolyMet Mining near the Boundary Waters and found the impacts of the proposal are “not fully and fairly addressed in the DEIS” and does not fully address anticipated project effects to federally endangered species, the bald eagle, wetlands and mine run-off.

  • Audubon Urges Support for Forested Lands

    Two state Audubon chapters have been selected as the 2010 recipients of Collaborative Project funding made possible through Audubon Minnesota. “These annual grants are awarded to promote projects and programs that advance the state office’s conservation and educational priorities,” said Mark Peterson, Audubon Minnesota’s Executive Director.

    Field Research Assistants are needed May 21 to early-July 2010 to complete surveys of breeding birds in Minnesota and northern Wisconsin as part of Minnesota’s statewide Breeding Bird Atlas and a long-term monitoring program on national forests of the western Great Lakes region.
